If i were to make an App for my iphone the app i would invent would be an automatic ATIS for pilots. ATIS is an automatic terminal information service for pilots the review and release information upon a certain airports weather information, which runways are active, available approaches, and any other information required by the pilots, including notams.Usually the way the pilots listen to atis would be through the headset in the aircraft and dialing it in on the radios. I think this would be a very essential and easier if not safer approach to finding airport information while flying the aircraft to receive vital information. Pilots have a lot to do while flying aircraft and how easy would it be to just take out your phone or pull out an i pad and click on the state your flying in and the airport you are flying to and all the information you would need for landing at the airport is all at the palm of your hand. The iATIS™ app and the ATIS Wheel is the product of ATP pilot, Carl Dworman, CFIIA 1793666, S&MEL&S+R. "Offered on the iATIS™ app display (though not offered in the ATIS broadcast) is an input to display the airport FIELD ELEVATION which is critical for instrument approaches. Additionally, the iATIS™ app clearly displays the visual relationship between the wind direction and the active runway. In addition to informing the pilot as to the existing velocity of the wind, the iATIS™ app also calculates and displays headwind and cross-wind components for both takeoff and landing".http://iatisapp.com/about.html. Me as a private pilot a am glad that an app like this exist to make the work flow inside the aircraft easier. The iATIS™ app has fourteen important data information displays. Each topic on the display side of the iATIS™ app coincides with the sequential information reported by the tower in the airport terminal area's ATIS broadcast. This broadcast information is first entered on the data input screen which is on the obverse page of the iATIS™ main display.http://iatisapp.com/about.html. This app alone is very essential to pilots and a must have in my opinion for every pilot to carry or have on them but never exclude the fact that they still must listen to the radio atis that is transmitted over the frequency to make sure that they have received the information correctly.Once the information is entered into the iATIS™ data entry screen, the information is now available on the front screen of the iATIS™ app for continued reference without the possibility of transcription error or forgetting the pertinent ATIS data. (It is recommended that the pilot listen to the pre-recorded ATIS information twice to verify that the correct information has been entered on the data entry side of the iATIS™ app).http://iatisapp.com/about.html.
